Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was the difference as Manchester United beat Benfica 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday night.
Ronaldo, who scored the only goal of the match with a stunning strike from outside the box, was delighted to be back among the goals after missing two previous matches through injury.
The Portugal international had been out since suffering a knee injury against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this month and his return was greeted with great excitement by the fans.
However,Serie A Stadium it was not all good news for the Red Devils as they were beaten by a late equaliser from Di Maria, who passed for the winner.
United manager Jose Mourinho said: "We lost the game because we conceded too many chances."
Mourinho also praised Ronaldo's performance, saying: "He is playing very well. He's doing what he has done before. We're happy that Cristiano is back."
