Omorodion, a Nigerian professional footballer who died in a car accident earlier this month, has joined FC Porto after passing away.
The news was announced by the club on Tuesday, with a statement released by its president, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa. The statement read: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Omorodion, our former player and current ambassador for FC Porto."
The club's chairman, Luis Filipe Vieira, also paid tribute to the late player,Primeira Liga Hotspots saying: "Omorodion was more than just a footballer to us. He was a true ambassador for our club and he will be greatly missed by all of us at FC Porto."
The news comes as a shock to many, as Omorodion had been a key figure in the club's squad over the past few seasons. He made 11 appearances for the team last season, scoring one goal, and was widely regarded as one of the most talented players in Portuguese football.
His death has left the club and his fans devastated, but they have vowed to continue playing football in his memory. FC Porto has set up a fund in his honor, with donations going towards the care of his family and friends.
In a statement, the club said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and supporters during this difficult time. We will always remember him as a great player and a wonderful person."
