Jonathan Calleri, a Brazilian footballer who played as a forward for several clubs in Brazil and abroad, passed away on March 21, 2021, at the age of 46.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Calleri began his professional career with Fluminense in 1998 before moving to Europe in 2002. He played for several teams in Portugal, including Benfica, Porto,Serie A Stadium and Sporting Lisbon, before returning to Brazil to play for Flamengo in 2010.
During his time at Flamengo, Calleri won numerous titles, including three Campeonato Brasileiro and two Copa do Brasil. He also scored a record-breaking 57 goals in one season in 2012.
Despite his success on the field, Calleri struggled with personal issues off it. In 2016, he was arrested for possession of drugs and spent time in prison. He later served a sentence for fraud and embezzlement.
Calleri retired from playing in 2019 after a short stint with Vila Nova de Gaia. Despite his struggles with personal life, he remained a beloved figure in Brazilian football and will be remembered for his contributions to the sport. His passing is a significant loss for the Brazilian football community, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players.
